After nearly a decade and a half, the mystery has finally been solved, thanks to technology. I even had a Botanist from the U of M try to ID this back in 2007 to no avail. This Antennaria Dioica Wild Flower picture was also found on virgin prairie in Western Minnesota. A really amazing bud with a metallic colored stem.
